Ageing eyes

Signs of aging eyes include:

  • Difficulty readingYou may have trouble reading fine print, or need to hold reading material closer to your face. 
  • Trouble seeing in the darkYou may have difficulty seeing at night, or be dazzled when going from a bright to a dark environment. 
  • Dry eyesYour eyes may feel dry and irritated, or you may produce fewer tears. 
  • Glare sensitivityYou may be sensitive to bright light or glare, or notice more glare from headlights or the sun. 
  • Color changesYou may have trouble distinguishing colors, or the lens in your eye may discolor. 
  • Blurred visionYou may experience cloudy or blurred vision. 
  • Eye floatersYou may see spots or floaters in your vision. 
  • Flashes of lightYou may see flashes of light in your vision. 
  • WrinklesYou may develop wrinkles around your eyes, also known as crow’s feet. 
  • Red, swollen eyelidsYour eyelids may appear red and swollen. 

Other eye problems that can occur with aging include age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, and glaucoma. 

To protect your vision, you can: Get regular eye exams, Eat nutritious foods, Wear sunglasses and a brimmed hat, Quit smoking, and Manage diabetes and high blood pressure.
