Correction of imperfect cataract surgery
If cataract surgery doesn’t achieve the desired visual target, it can be corrected with glasses, contacts or additional surgery. There are several options for correcting imperfect cataract surgery, including:
Light adjustable lens: A photosensitive lens that can be customized after surgery with ultraviolet light treatments.
Piggyback lens: A thin, foldable lens that’s placed between the iris and the artificial lens implant.
Intraocular lens exchange: The IOL can be exchanged with the correct one.
Toric IOL repositioning: This can correct astigmatism.
Corneal refractive surgery: Options include photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
YAG Capsulotomy: A minimally invasive, painless procedure that corrects blurred vision caused by posterior capsule opacification (PCO).
Cataract surgery is a one-time procedure per eye, and the removed lens doesn’t grow back. However, there are some post-operative problems that can occur, such as blurred vision, redness, eye discomfort, and sensitivity to light.
