Iris repair surgery

Iris surgery is a procedure that can repair or replace the iris of the eye. It’s performed to address functional or cosmetic issues with the iris, such as an abnormally shaped pupil, or to replace a damaged or missing iris.

Iris repair

Also known as iridoplasty, this procedure uses sutures to reshape the iris and recreate a round pupil.

Iris prosthesis

Also known as artificial iris implant surgery, this procedure involves inserting a custom-made artificial iris into the eye. The iris is folded and inserted through a small incision in the cornea, then unfolded to cover the natural iris.
Iris surgery is usually performed under local or general anesthesia. The results are generally good, but depend on the condition of the remaining iris tissue.

Risks of iris surgery include

Excessive inflammation, bleeding, corneal swelling, and glaucoma.
Complications are more likely to occur in people who have a functional iris and choose an implant for cosmetic reasons.
